The Athens regional office of Hall Booth Smith & Slover, P.C. is the newest of our regional offices, yet actually has deep roots in the legal history of "The Classic City" and Northeast Georgia. The office opened September 1, 2003 at 290 North Milledge Avenue in a Victorian House constructed in 1880. Terrell W. Benton, Jr. and Malcolm C. McArthur who had practiced law together in the firm of Benton, Begnaud & Marshall. L.L.P., which dissolved August 31, 2003, were the initial attorneys in the Athens Office. The latter firm was organized in Athens in 1867, as Cobb & Cobb, and continued in the General Practice of Law in Athens, under many different names, from 1867 until 2003. Michael C. Pruett, also a Partner at Benton, Begnaud, & Marshall, joined HBSS on August 14, 2006, as a Partner, and chairs our Wills, Trusts and Estates Practice Group. After three years, we have outgrown the 1880 House at the corner of Milledge and Hancock, and will move to larger quarters in downtown Athens by the end of the year.
