Biography
Kevin Abernethy is an attorney in the Atlanta office of Hall Booth Smith & Slover. Mr. Abernethy has extensive litigation experience handling civil rights claims for the City of Atlanta, large complex environmental lawsuits, and suits involving professional negligence. He has litigation and trial experience in both Georgia and Tennessee. Mr. Abernethy also works in the areas of regulation and government affairs. His work in these areas primarily focuses on representation for the power industry.

In 2008, Mr. Abernethy served as Deputy Legislative Counsel to Lt. Gov. Cagle, and in 2009 he will serve as Special Deputy Legislative Counsel to the Lt. Gov.

He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1999 with his B.A. in Political Science. During college, he was elected and served as the UGA Student Body President. While an undergraduate, Mr. Abernethy was selected for membership in the Pi Sigma Alpha National Honorary Society in Political Science and Omicron Delta Kappa.

Before entering law school, Mr. Abernethy served as a legislative aide in the Georgia State Senate to the chairman of the committee on Natural Resources and the chairman of Appropriations.

Mr. Abernethy earned his Juris Doctorate from the Georgia State University College of Law in 2005. While in law school, he gained honors recognition for his work in a mock-trial litigation course. Mr. Abernethy also received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award for his academic performance in Interview Counseling & Negotiation.

Mr. Abernethy is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, and the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association. He resides in Atlanta where he is active in his church. He enjoys jogging, golf, skiing, and reading.
