Education
Ms. Jolliffe’s practice is devoted almost exclusively to the defense and representation of educational institutions. She provides advice and counsel to elected officials and school administrators on issues related to employment, equity and discrimination, school safety and security, special education, student rights and discipline, and records management. Ms. Jolliffe has assisted in defending educational institutions at both the trial and appellate level. She has also helped educational institutions avoid trial by successfully raising available immunity defenses.

Ms. Jolliffe is a regular speaker on topics related to special education and student records. She provides ongoing counsel to school district officials, reviewing and revising institutional policies and procedures, assisting with internal investigations of discrimination and sexual harassment, and evaluating and responding to requests for disability-related accommodations and special education services.

Employment Law
Within the context of employment law, Ms. Jolliffe understands the unique challenges faced by public sector employers. The absence of profit motive, the pressing nature of political considerations, and the availability of multiple levels of administrative review are all factors which contribute to the complexity of government employment actions. Ms. Jolliffe’s employment law practice is dedicated entirely to the representation of educational institutions. When educational institutions must defend employment actions in court, Ms. Jolliffe’s clients benefit from her familiarity with federal performance standards and the practical impact of these requirements on employment-related decisions.


Biography
Andrea L. Jolliffe is an associate in the Athens office of Hall Booth Smith & Slover, PC.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Jolliffe was the Assistant Director for Legal Affairs at the University of Georgia where she provided legal counsel to senior level administrators on a variety of legal issues related to post-secondary education, including employment discrimination, student discipline, and campus safety. Ms. Jolliffe also administered the University of Georgia’s employee grievance process, investigated complaints of discrimination and sexual harassment, and provided sexual harassment training to University employees.

Ms. Jolliffe is a native of the Washington, D.C. area. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law . While in law school, Ms. Jolliffe clerked with the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division and interned with the State of Maryland Office of the Attorney General, Health Education and Advocacy Unit. Following law school, Ms. Jolliffe was awarded a public interest fellowship with Atlanta Legal Aid Society’s where she worked with the Mental Health and Disability Law Project.
